Tighter Management, New Software Development Models Coming to Project Management in 2010, Cerri.com Predicts

NEW YORK USA, MONTRÉAL CANADA, LINDAU GERMANY, GENEVA SWITZERLAND – (January 6, 2010) – Based on customer feedback collected throughout 2009, Cerri.com predicts that documenting project results and a greater demand for flexible software licensing models will be among the top five project management trends of 2010.

Leading Lotus Notes and Web-based project management software provider Genius Project has more than 500 customers in a wide range of industries including manufacturing, information technology, professional services, insurance and financial services. Requests from the customer base for additional functionality for measuring outputs and interest in the company’s new Genius Project for Web software as a service (SaaS) product fueled Cerri.com’s predictions for 2010. The project management software market is forecasted to grow 14.4 percent in 2010 on the way to $2.2 billion in revenues by 2012, according to Gartner.

“We’ve heard a lot of questions about software as a service products, and our SaaS product was very well received despite the recession,” said Christophe Borlat, GCerri.com managing director. “It’s not a great leap from there to predict that customers are going to want more options for licensing. Customers have also asked for more features for resource management; simulation and what-if analysis; tighter integration with partner products; and project output metrics. Based on those questions, we’re predicting companies will focus on those areas in 2010. They will either be purchasing products to perform the necessary functions, or they have already purchased them and will put them into production next year.”

Cerri.com’s Top 5 project management predictions for 2010 are:

1. Software licensing models evolve
Customers will demand more flexibility on the number of licenses clients can have during different times of the year, reflecting variability in project team structure. SaaS products will gain recognition as a source of that flexibility.

2. Sharper focus on project requirements definition and output metrics Evaluating organizational costs, projects’ impact on the company, choosing the right projects and managing the project portfolio are critical in a recovering economy. Organizations need quality metrics to assess and track economic performance and project value delivery in order to maximize project portfolio ROI.

3. Stricter resource management Project teams have to complete the same amount of work with fewer resources. Optimizing those resources is crucial, so there will be a demand for tools that make people more productive and efficient. Companies will make heavier use of “what if” analysis to determine the best scenarios for maximizing resources.

4. Web-based solutions as the foundations of virtual teams The growing palette of project management solutions on the Web will give companies more flexibility to build ad-hoc teams of staff, partners, customers and vendors.

5. Growth of the Scrum software development model Cerri.com sees a wider adoption of the Scrum methodology, a variation of the Agile software development model that calls for reviews throughout the development process. Organizations that use Scrum need an easy-to-use tool to coordinate daily business operations.
